I had bought off a bunch of old Beastmen for cheap off of a friend back when I started in the 6th ed days. He had already primed them with white primer and dressed the bases with rocks. For whatever reason (I think I remember him saying cuz of the temperature) the primer left a texture on the models that gave them a mossy/fuzzy look (which he dug and kept them that way):
Fuzzy Gor

I had intended to strip the paint and rebase them; I had some scale model paint stripper from another friend that didn't want it anymore and dunked a gang of Gors into it. Due to life/shifting attention span, I forgot about them....for a decade plus!

Amazingly, I found the container in a closet when the urge to hobby stuck me years later and to repurpose them for AoS, I took them out and found that they were still solid and intact. The details on the models still looked the same as the non-stripped ones! The primer layer had sloughed off like sheets of skin and ended as dregs at the bottom of the container as well as the rocks. I had destroyed the bases with the intention to re-base them on rounds for AoS (I had briefly played some Beasts of Chaos in their AoS incarnation).

Unfortunately I lost interest in the hobby/AoS and set them side for another number of years. I think the last time I played AoS was pre-pandemic times. Now with The Old World and being bit with the hobby bug again, I'm here trying to give them another lease on life (and going back onto squares)!

There was still some primer residue stuck in nooks and crannies, fur, etc.:

The remains of the textured primer

Took about an hour of scrubbing with "Master's Brush Cleaner" (which works great!). Not perfect, but close to all bare plastic once more. I think these are going to be as clean as it's going to get:

Emerging from the longest bath ever

Luck would have it, I was able to find 6th ed Gor weapon arm bits on Ebay, so I'm waiting on those to come in. Also GW no longer selles square slotta bases...but fortunately, in true Ghettohammer fashion, I bought a bag of 25mm slotta bases to use as proxy way back LOL!

Base Off!

Took a little bit of elbow grease, finesse in clipping and shaving the bases, some drops of blood (from stabbing myself with said Exacto lol), and some curses to the Chaos Gods, but I managed to get the round bases off of AoS Beastmen!

Ready for rebasing!

Some of the Bestigors popped off their bases clean, with a good firm yank! Note for when I rebase these guys - a little dab will do indeed.

Most of the others required some more care. The Bestigors were easier to work with, since they are relatively beefier than the Ungor models and more tolerance to pulling and pressure. The Ungors have skinnier ankles, and the pressure I was applying caused some material to fatigue. I had to use an Exacto to shave the remaining base under their feet.

A couple Ungors' limbs also need to be reglued, but fortunately they were clean breaks. I guess now I know I used super glue and not plastic glue when I assembled these back then.

Overall the gang is intact!

Return to the Old World....

It's been a long time, but The Old World has released (for about a year at this point), and nostalgia got me thinking about Warhammer and hobbying again, along with my old gaming group getting together for a game of The Old World soon!

I have liked Beastmen since 6th edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle, and played them here and there, mostly in 7th and few times in AoS. Since they were squatted from AoS, and are a core faction in TOW, I thought it was time to muster the forces and gather up what I have from all the dusty boxes and get em ready!

I have a pretty modest collection, but all the better as a starting point to get back into the hobby!

Here's some that were based on rounds for AoS:

The Start Collecting Box for AoS
The AoS Beastmen

Ungor Raider

Bestest of the Bestigor

Braying Shaman

Ghorgonzola

These guys are from the AoS Start Collecting box for Beasts of Chaos. Display wise, I think minis look good on rounds. The Ghorgon in the back, fortunately was not glued to the base, as I was going to do some further gap filling (guess that never happened, lol).

Beastmen have changed bases sizes since Warhammer Fantasy; Ungors, Gors are 25mms, characters can be on either 25mm or 30mm, and the Ghorgon is now on 60x100mm. Time to rebase!

There was a trick that I used to rebase my Chaos Warriors from 8th ed to AoS, which was to freeze em, causing the super glue to become brittle and then snap em off the bases....

Unfortunately the Beastmen, don't have the cankles of the Chaos Warriors, so pulling on them is causing damage to the models. So time for some base chopping:

Snip snip time...

Blood Warriors!

I'm currently assembling the core of my Khorne warband, the Blood Warriors! I have been proxying Chaos Warriors and the starter set mono-pose Blood Warriors up until now. Though I could've saved a bunch of cash ebaying more of the starter set Blood Warriors, they only come in the gore fist variety. They do have more or less the same amount of detail, and I'd would say they are a smidge more "natural" in their poses since they were modeled intentionally in their poses, I still decided to get the actual kits. Besides the kits have the command options too and cool helms. I do like "Mouthy" and "Beardo" a lot from the mono-pose group:

Beardo!

Mouthy!
The kit's bits and pieces are highly detailed, and kit allows for a lot of mix and matching of arms, weapons, torsos and helms. However, this meant that each model had many pieces (about 9 per model) which made it take longer to clean up than the starter set mono-pose Blood Warriors.

There are a few extra bits (a few heads, an extra front torso). Due to the details and intricacies of the the helm/weapon designs, I found these to be the tedious bits to clean the mould lines off. Trying to scrap little areas between rivets, spikes, and fitting my hobby knife into awkward nooks and openings were a test of patience! Sometimes the plastic dust/shavings would obscure a small rivet and i'd accidentally scrap a portion off!! grrr...

Damn nooks and crannies!

On the other hand, the lower bodies, calves, and torsos were relatively a cinch; mostly just scrapping off the sprue contact point "nubs".

In the pic below you can see that I started by cleaning and gluing the sub-assemblies:
- Torso front and back
- Arms with pauldrons
- Lower body with calf

Lotta pieces

I also noticed that the the fitment of the half pauldron bits left some gaps. I'm adding an extra dab of glue for those small gaps as a filler.

There are options to create 2 Blood Warrior versions: 2 axes, or axe and gorefist. The gorefists look really cool and unique, but I opted to go with the 2 axe option since that is what I typically run them as when gaming. However, the arms with shoulder armor (aka pauldron) are 2 pieces (the arm and weapon, and the other half of the pauldron). The kit only provides enough of these half-pauldron bits to build one of the options. This means the left over bits (in my case the gorefist arms) are looking kinda funny missing half the pauldron; though I'm sure one can find the pauldron bits if you search online).

Poor left over Gorefists!

I also like the full "Bunny-Ears" Khorne helms over the 2 bare-heads with topknots option as I felt they looked more menacing! Though for variety, I may find some alternate head for at least 1-2 of the models. I also like how the heads are the classic "ball and socket" joint; that means I have the option to swap in other heads from other kits (i.e. Bloodcrushers, Marauder Horsemen, etc.)

Bunny Ears!

Meh, why does GW keep making heads with topknots?

More to come!

Demon Prince...of Khorne?

I thought it was about time i got an updated Daemon Prince model...the plastic one has been out for years, and I've been eyeing it since it was released. The thing that held me back, was that I had the metal Be'lakor model that has been filling the role since 6th ed....However he's smaller in size to the plastic one.

Also since the heads that come with the DP are kinda goofy IMO,  and I was toying with the idea of making a Khorne Daemon Prince, I had an idea... I had a spare Flesh Hound head (from the Mighty Lord of Khorne) and tried to shave it down and dry-fitted it on the DP body with blue tack:

Khorney!

Kinda cool, very unique, but somehow it makes me think of Skaven...

Finished 10 Hammerers and a Runesmith.

I wanted the Hammeres to have a more "elite"  look, so I gave them gold trim on the armor instead of red (like the core warriors and thunderers).
